Showering love with carnations

Never had this fascinating moment before...

1400 carnations gone in 2 days with wrappings by Susan, Catherine, ...and all the flower crafts lovers at our workshop! These are gifts for mums during celebration of Mother's day sponsored by a mn corporate company.

The preparative works were tedious and laborious. Flower arrangement needs lotta manpower, if needed in huge quantity like 1400 stalks. Ha! It's good to have frens around, not mainly for help but also the company throughout the wrapping process.
Sweet, simple and its "be-different" design in the wrapping -- worth sharing with you!

Follow Ur Imagination

I came across an interesting shop at Marina Square which sells mini mosaics. The tile fragments come in various colors, shapes and opacity. They sell also pebbles, buttons, beads and even broken pieces of shells.

This shop is actually selling mosaic art. At the shop, you may find many unique mosaics masterpieces expressed in our daily live i.e. mirror, photo frame, flower vases, and wall art. Workshops in mosaic-making are their regular events especially during holidays.

I was given a brochure, told to learn more about the workshops they offer via their web http://www.mosaics-hip.com/

Examples extracted from the shop’s website:

All you need is just imagination to create your own picture or design by gathering the mini tiles on your working item. I find it a good way to de-strees, just like when you do jig-saw puzzle. :)

If you are madly fond of mosaic art, perhaps you should visit Spain, a country with fabulous architectural mosaics - from ancient mosaics to modern mosaics.

Passion for the Roses

Roses are used in various occations depending on its color. I believe it's popularity remains high among buyers especially in the coming Valentine's day though many other options like tulips, sunflowers and gerbera, lilies have gained attention in floral market.

Roses hold the meaning of romance the most; a friend of mine has come out with a list of meanings for no of roses in her blog, http://huiyee8080.blogs.friendster.com/angels_flower/ Because of its mass size, roses sometimes become secondary stems in a combination with lilies or sunflowers. Bigger mass flowers are eya-catching and able to bring up the volume of the bouquet as well.

How do you enlighten roses as subject stems while doing a big round bouquet? What could actually be used to compliment the roses?

Foliage is the solution... See! I resemble the roses with equal volume of some african foliage, red hypericum and brunia bubbles etc in the hand bouquet - eagerly waiting to exclaim your love and passion proclaimation; Roses stand out radiantly from the artifical foliage in the glass vessel.

"Peace in our backyard." - Julian Dowle

Not just ordinary garden...designed to realise one's dreams

Celebrating peace 60 years after World War II, this awards-winning garden was designed based on the dreams of home by soldiers at war by a UK prominent landscape deisgner, Julina Dowle. The English country pub garden, namely The Chelsea Pensioner's Garden - A Soldier's Dream of Blighty is recreated in Singapore Garden Festival at Suntec.

This version however is English by design but seen thru the eyes of soldiers in the tropics; using tropical plants and materials in a very English style. There are a cottage as pub, table and bench in front, a vegetable garden, and low plantings around the traditional English timber fence. The whole garden is bedecked with plants and flowers, which although tropical, evoke memories of home.

Do come over to Suntec for this festival, the showcase of the creations of top award-winning landscape and garden designers, florists and horticulturists from the Chealsea Flower Show, Philadelphia Flower Show, Floriade (Holland), Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show, Laman (Malaysia) and many more.
I have gained a lot during the festival...will share later.

百变@ X'mas trees

I have a pleasant stroll at several shopping malls recently to "feel" the christmas's celebrities. You can see many people choosing christmas trees and the fancy decorations for their homes in preparing for the merry event.

Christmas has become the happiest time of year around the world including Singapore. Not only home, most of the shops and stalls also have xmas trees decorated with shinny tinsel, ornaments, showflakes, and hand-made variety to attract shoppers. The decor has been very eye-catching than the year-end-sales signages! Guess what? The xmas trees' leaves are no longer green; no bright star on top; don't look golden anymore, Hahaa!

Would like to share some pictures I take at shopping malls. The X'mas trees are said to have trendy design.

Be Innovative, Go "Vaseless"

Hand bouquet is an arranged bouquet of flowers and foliage that is wrapped with decorative papers and tied with raffia. Traditionally, this creation of design is commonly used in many occations as a gift rather than a display, whereas in modern work there is functional purpose with the design, revealing the beauty as well as the needs in flower display.

Hand bouquet does not come with container, instead, the recipient merely drop the tied and arranged bouquet in a vase. It could trouble the recipient when selecting a suitable container; some people hang the tied bouquet up side down in a bid to preserve each piece of plant material. (I used to do that but I realised that not many flowers can be dry preserved) =P.

The best moment to indulge in the sweeties flowers is when it is fresh and still scented your room! In modern work, the forms of flower and their stems are taken into consideration in the floral creation. Longer stems are kept as to prolong the life span of the flowers.
See pictures (1), I use mottled red-black wrapping paper as "paper vase" for the bouquet I have arranged; by contrast the one with glass in pic (2) looks plain. What do you think?

We have seen many seasonal floral decorations arranged in containers (vase, pot etc.). Perhaps we could try something innovative -- vaseless floral arrangement?
